A Goal Achievement Program
Often we refer to a Goal Achievement Program as
Goal Setting. However, a Goal Achievement Program is much more than
Goal Setting. It is not only about setting your goals for sporting
success but then developing the strategies to achieve these goals and
then implementing the strategies.
A
Goal Achievement Program can use a number of basic tools such as
reviewing your past performance, discussions around your desired
outcomes and documentation of your goals. It may also be enhanced by
such things as posters and stickers to remind you of your goal or wall
charts where you recognise the achievement of your milestones.
The really powerful component of a Goal Achievement Program comes when
you tap into the power of your mind. This may be done by way of
affirmations,
visualization, suggestion, hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming
(NLP) or other methods aimed at bringing change on the unconscious
level. The people that surround you become so important in shaping your
thinking and your beliefs. It is essential that these people are
providing your mind with positive suggestions not limiting suggestions.
It is helpful if these people have some basic understanding of the power
of suggestions and the way the mind works.

Competition Day Preparation
Your Competition Day Preparation builds on the mental skills you
developed within the Goal Achievement Program. It may use various
relaxation techniques or techniques to heighten your energy levels and
focus. It is aimed at getting you in the zone. Typically, this
will involve a competition day routine aimed at helping you tap into
some previously established physiological state. This process uses the
principals of anchoring to help you access and maintain the desired
physiological state.
